GDT, the Dallas-based IT integrator, won 1st place overall at the 2017 Fit Company Challenge and was awarded the title of Fittest Company, beating over 200 competitors from other Dallas area firms. Held annually and hosted by the Fit Company Institute, the Fit Company Challenge aims to promote corporate health and wellness through team-based fitness competitions offered around the country.
A Focus on Fitness
The winning team from GDT was made up of over 40 members representing the company’s various business groups including sales, engineering, marketing, logistics, and accounting. They competed in events designed to challenge strength, conditioning, power, agility, and endurance.
GDT encourages employees to live healthy, environmentally conscious lifestyles, leading by example by providing work-life flexibility through wellness initiates. The Dallas IT integrator prides itself on the many wellness-focused benefits it provides to employees including the on-prem, fully-equipped fitness center, basketball court, free health screening, and health conscious meals provided at the sprawling West Dallas campus.
Top individual performances by Shelby Helms, Chris Giordano, Craig Frampton, and Nic Lazano carried the team to victory and were supported by the deep bench of other top finishers including Clint Watkins, Jacob Munson, Adam Isakson, Was Watkins, Dan Engelhardt, David Maldonado, Shaun Whitehorse, and Jennifer Burton.
Team Captain David Maldonado reflected on the experience, “It was truly a group effort by this year’s GDT Fit Team working together to gain 1st place overall. I cannot tell you how excited we all are about this accomplishment. I think this shows the culture that we foster at GDT and the support we get from each other in and out of the gym. I am really proud of our team not only for putting so much effort into this event but for supporting each other through all our insane training and preparation. We all can’t wait to do even better next year!”
